Just had a Thought and now I’m curious. What’s you guy’s strangest comfort media? It doesn’t have to be strange as in like creepy/fucked up/whatever, it can just be smthn a lil odd.

stealthboy:

im really stoned and sleep deprived and im thinking about some of the “about” pages ive seen from young tumblr users and im like. who tf is out here telling 14 year old kids that they gotta put shit like a detailed description of all of their potential social privileges next to a summary of their medical history on public display. Who told them to do that. i don’t wanna see these poor kids pinning detailed lists of their traumas next to words like “thin passing” to the top of their blogs so that every unknown passing stranger can immediately see it. kids whoever is telling u that is wrong ok. im in my mid 20s and I don’t even put my real name on most things online. ur allowed to just be on here and have fun. also don’t blindly trust strangers ok. pls be safe. go look at cat memes

Teachers have tried this and are amazed when their classes don’t go feral like in the book.  It’s almost as if the book was supposed to be satire and not a treaty on the nature of humanity.

there’s a timeskip

THERE’S A TIMESKIP

THERE’S A TIMESKIP

THERE’S A TIMESKIP

after losing control of the signal fire there’s a FUCKING TIMESKIP and when the next chapter starts everyone’s hair is several inches longer and their clothes have rotted to shreds and they’re still just kind of chilling!!!!

IT TAKES THE TERRIBLE IMPERIALISM MIND-POISONED EXCESSIVELY BRITISH BOYS IN THE ACTUAL BOOK SEVERAL MONTHS TO COMMIT A SINGLE ACT OF INTENTIONAL VIOLENCE, EVEN THE ONE (1) CHILD WRITTEN AS AN ACTUAL SOCIOPATH

AND then when they DO turn on each other it is because

THERE’S AN UNSPECIFIED WORLD WAR HAPPENING

AND A PILOT’S CORPSE CRASH LANDS ON THE ISLAND POST-DOGFIGHT AND THE CHILDREN MISTAKE THE PARACHUTE FOR A MONSTER AND SPIRAL INTO PARANOIA

BECAUSE CHILDREN INHERIT THE LEGACY AND TRAUMA OF VIOLENCE FROM THE ADULTS WAGING WAR AROUND THEM

HURR DURR IN THE REAL WORLD IT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN LIKE IN LORD OF THE FLIES -

IT DIDN’T HAPPEN THAT WAY IN LORD OF THE FLIES EITHER YOU JUST HAVEN’T READ IT SINCE HIGH SCHOOL IF EVER AND DON’T REMEMBER WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED IN THE GODDAMN BOOK

image

#tbf the dude wrote it to be a dick

yes. yes he did. i’m also gonna direct you to the real life ‘lord of the flies’ which occured in the 1960s, when six tongan schoolboys got stranded on a desert island for over a year before being rescued by an australian fisherman (who, it should be noted, later took on all six as crewmembers because the reason they were out in the first place was because they wanted to see the world, and named his ship the Ata after the island they were stranded on). nobody died. the only injuries that occurred were accidental, and when one of the boys broke his leg falling down a cliff, the others braced it and looked after him so well that it healed perfectly. if they argued, then they would literally go to opposite sides of the island until they’d cooled off. after leaving the island, they remained friends for the rest of their lives. here’s a photo of them as adults, with their rescuer (who is third from the left) and other members of his crew.

i read about this in rutger bregman’s human kind, a book i cannot recommend highly enough, but if you don’t want to go and read a whole book about the inherent goodness of humanity (which again, you really should) then the relevant excerpt can be found here.

i genuinely dont care if the creation of all media comes to a screeching halt btw i will very gladly live with no new movies no new tv shows no new anything for years if that’s what it takes for the people who create them to be treated like human beings. i hope every other facet of the entertainment industry goes on strike too and i hope all the ones that havent unionised yet will. i want media creation to become completely impossible and i want the people who could make it possible again to hold out until they get every single thing they want. btw

Funny how a mass arrest goes completely under the radar when it’s mostly teens, right?

To be clear there was no explosive; “hill bomb” is just what the event is called.

Holy SHIT. I just finished reading a related article, and y’all, this was so corrupt OTHER SFPD COPS ARE STANDING WITH THE KIDS.

Like basically their take is “yeah, some kids were being unruly. Y’all handled it ENTIRELY the wrong way and there is zero reason this should have happened.” There was an official meeting (I think like a monthly town hall kind of thing? I forgot to take note when I read it) and the cop who’s in charge of internal conduct investigation was there and he. Was. PISSED. And inviting parents and teens involved to give their testimony on the specifics of the rights violations they experienced so he could follow up and make full reports.

Like you KNOW shit’s fucked when even other police are looking at the police chief and saying “what the fuck is wrong with you?”

the end of men in black is so funny. your boss trains you for two days on interplanetary relations then says “ok I think you can take it from here. I’m wiping my own memory so don’t bother calling me if you have any questions”

This is just modern on site training

Call me whatever names you wish, but I think this is a much better (and healthier) attitude than “anyone under 18 should never be allowed to see any sexual imagery ever”

(For reference: this was at the Tom of Finland exhibition, containing actual, queer, kinky af pornography. There were definitely some young people there, perhaps in their late teens. There was even a parent with their baby who was probably too young to understand anything at all. And guess what, all those people are probably going to be fine.)

[ID: a sign saying “Please note: there is no age limit, but the exhibition is not recommended for children due to the explicit sexual imagery it contains. Parental or guardian discretion is advised.”]

This is actually examples of the field of mathematics called topology and it’s fucking bullshit wizard shit.

finally, applied mathematics

image

Don’t worry mathematicians had a very similar reaction at first

Basically around the beginning of 20th century mathematicians were arguing about how to eliminate paradoxes from coming up in maths, and they were questioning whether the bases of maths, known for thousands of years, are complete / correct

In geometry there were those five principles from which everything else was derived, and mathematicians were like: „See, we’ll prove that geometry is sound and complete bc without any one of those principles nothing will make sense!”

And then it made sense. It made too much sense in many weird ways when they removed the 5th principle.

And so, topology was born, simply because mathematicians were so sure it wouldn’t work they decided to try it out as a joke

I’m sorry but Americans are simply not the weird ones here for taking basic safety precautions before operating a piece of mechanical equipment!

See the difference is that outside of the US people don’t need to worry about helmets because the roads and streets are actually safe

ASPHALT IS ASPHALT AND CONCRETE IS CONCRETE

roads in europe are made out of magical super bouncy jello concrete
